Reflecting on Unit 7 presentation

(VIDEO TO BE UPLOADED IN DUE COURSE)

So, with our interactive guides completed it was time to present it to our peers! I feel we preapred quite well, so much so we didn't need a script. I immidiately noticed other groups holding iPads and notebooks so I got a bit more confidence that we preacticed and prepared quite professionally. From past projects I noticed it was best to go first and deal with the presentaion straight away. The longer you sit anticipating your turn, the more nervous you get and therefore your presentation won't run as smoothly. Our powerpoint was concise and we expanded the points made through speech. This mase the presentation easier to follow. I felt overall that the presentation was a huge sucess. I actually didn't feel nervous and I believe this is because I have done many presentations and learnt from my mistakes. Thus, this expereince and knowledge between myself and my partner meant that we were able to accomplish a great presentaion.

When looking back at my presentation, I noticed how profesional we both looked. Body posture/ language is key to a successful presenation as it shows professioanlism. Through out the presentation, me and my partner reamined still and natural, with little body noises and movemment. It can be irratating as the audience to watch a presenation where the presenter can't keep still. It becomes distracting and is less engadging with the audience.

I was also happy with my voice projection. The last thing I wanted was to have a great PowerPoint and interesting points to make, but the audience not able to hear them! I had a good tone and projection- making every point clear and easy to follow. I also thought my partner was very sucessful here too! He also remained professional and had a clear voice when speaking.

If you look closely at the direction I look in (in the video above), you can see that I am attempting to make eye contact with my audience. This technique engadges the audidence, and shows them that you are aware of them and paying attention to them. In addition to this, I didn't make eye contact with one person- I made contact with as many as I could. This is to show that I am have confidnece in what I am saying, and again, shows professioanlism. I don't believe my partner made much eye contact. He did at times, but particulalry when he was talking he didn't look too confident. I am happy with how he wored with me in this project, but if I was to give him advice myself, it would be to have more confidence.

Looking at the PowerPoint itself, I feel it didn't look too attractive. We mentioned in the PowerPoint that we were creative in terms of design for our interactive guide, yet we didn't reflect this point in the PowerPoint itself. We used a simple, basic template from Microsoft Office, which didn't look too innovative. This is something I would change if I was to do this again- as it may engadge the audience even more.

Ealier, I mentioned that I thought it was a good idead not to be handling scripts during the presentation as it made it more professional. However, at times I feel like we did 'waffle' on and sometimes even spoke quite fast (so much it felt to spontanious). Maybe if we did take some brief notes to refer to during the presentation, we may be able to do even better!

To help us gain understnading on what our audience thought of our presentation, we decided to do an 'audience evaluation'. We were  given marks out off five for the following;

- Visual aids
- Body language
- Voice
-Time management
- Organisation
- Knowledge

In addition to this we also recived some comments on each section. For example, we recived the comment 'good relevant images' in the visual aids section.

Some of the points like were not vey helpful as they didn't say how or where thathow I could actually improve. On the other hand, some points made were intersting. For eample someone made the point that I had a 'good voice, and shown confidence'. This backs up the point I made earlier that, I feel I had a strong and clear voice which is partly key to a sucessful presentation. Many made the point that our PowerPoint was relevant but could do with more visual aids to make it more interesting. I don't think we spent much time putting it together as we wanted to concertrate on our speech and what we were going to say. This is something we will take up, and work on in future projects. There were a few comments though that I do disagree with. For example; 'Josh could improve (body language)' suggests that at times I wasn't still or I was moving often. I strongly beleive I remained professional in my body language so this was a little usrpise to me.

Overall the feedback was exellent for me and my partner. The lowest mark we recived was four, which shows we did have a lot of sucess! There were some improvements we could have made, but al considred, I am very happy with the way it has all turned out!

What is Social Action and Community Media Production? Unit 31

For this unit, we were asked to create and present a PowerPoint presentation. This presentation was to explore social action and community media production. We were asked to research these two terms and present our findings to the rest of the class. In addition to this, we were asked to research upon two campaigns, and present to the class any relevant information (including their success, achievements and supporting stats).

So how successful was my presentation? Well, I ensured the layout of my PowerPoint was clear and not over-loaded with text. Too much information on one slide could potentially through off the audience away from the point. I was concise, but clear on what social and community action media production is, and I was able to give an example for each one to further express my knowledge. I explored their meaning with thorough research and I was able to concise this information into easy, clear and understandable notes to present. I gave a brief introduction to their purposes, which again, gave the audience clear understanding of the two terms.

In terms of the two campaign studies, I was able to demonstrate just how affective they have been. I wasn’t biased or opinionated, I was able to give relevant evidence, data and graphs that measured the impact these campaigns have had since they started. This data allowed the audience to get a real understanding on what they have changed and weather they have achieved their aims. To show that I have thoroughly researched into these two campaigns, I made it clear in my speech and on screen any sources I have collated my research from.

My chosen campaigns had many similarities as well as differences, so it was a great opportunity to compare them both during my presentation. I mentioned aspects such as the target audience and purpose to compare the two effectively.

When in the build-up to my presentation, I didn’t feel too confident. Presenting isn’t my strongest areas however, having completed various presentations in the past; I had a good idea on how to reach the top grade boundaries. I put my worries aside and I was able to speak clearly, confidently and enthusiastically. I knew that a presentation had to be formal, and whilst I was only presenting to colleagues, posture and register was still key to my success. Throughout the presentation it was tempting to lean back on a table behind me, but I kept my concentration, and ensured I was as professional as I can be. Our teacher gave us advice which was to make eye-contact. I was able to do this, whilst reading of my script, which was a good aspect in my presentation, as this kept the audience engaged and feel a little involved. On the other hand, I do feel mine could’ve been a little more interactive. I could’ve possibly asked questions, which would have engaged the audience even more.

My PowerPoint itself contained videos. They were the TV adverts the campaigns broadcasted. This allowed the audience to gain their own opinion on t
he campaigns. I also added slide animations, and added a setting to the PowerPoint that played the videos automatically. This made my presentation closer to the near-professional standard. In addition to this, I included animated gifs and interesting fonts that looked modern and suitable for my presentation.

Overall, I feel my presentation was very clear and I was able to give the audience a great understanding about social action and community media. I myself, have learnt two new terms- social action and community production. I wasn't not aware of these two terms at first, but after my research I was sure on what they are and how they are used...now it all seems simple to understand!

With the e-saftey project in mind, I think knowing these two terms will help. There will be many campaigns based around e-saftey. I can now research with them looking for there aims, how to measure their impact and aspects such as the target market. This is important as I am leading the department of ;suitable content'. This involves a lot of researching and analysing, and the skills and knowledge I have gained from this project will definitely help.
